Holiday Pairings
Everyone loves the holidays- and what better way to enjoy them than with a glass of wine. Parties, hostess gifts, the office gift exchange… all reasons for getting a great bottle of wine.
Sometimes, you really want to pair wine with the foods that you are serving. So here are a few holiday tips:
1) Pair your wine according to the heaviness of the dish.
Shrimp or chicken in a white wine or butter sauce? Choose a light bodied white- White Raven with its lively acidity and bright citrus notes is a perfect companion.
Turkey with all the trimmings? Choose a medium bodied white- Terrapin White with ripe melon and green apple notes and just a touch of sophisticated sweetness.
Lasagna or other red sauce based Italian delight? Choose a medium bodied red- Bacioni has refined berry and a hint of pepper with acidity to match the depth of flavors in the tomato sauce.
Tenderloin or other beef dish? Choose a fuller bodied red- Chambourcin has deep berry and oak overtones with soft smooth tannins. Red Skins has an earthy berry complexity that begs for the full flavors of a good slice of beef.
2) There is no rule that says you can’t just drink what you want.
If you don’t like dry wines, no one at your dinner table will care if you pour yourself a glass of Traminette with your meal or if you are dancing the night away with a glass of Steeple Chase.
3) Have fun and enjoy life.
